The project unifies two adjoining stone farmhouses in the village of Tegna, in Terre di Pedemonte, southern Switerland.
The exterior walls are maintained untouched, while the interior creates a new world in which concrete offers an essential and minimalist atmosphere. The concrete shell is separated from the historic stone wall structure by a necessary layer of insulation.
Beneath the large gabled concrete roof lies a single, large space, modulated by a single dividing element that separates the space into sleeping and living areas; a wooden block houses the bathroom, cloakroom, and kitchen. The living area features a floor-standing fireplace, opening to the roof; the chimney is made of concrete, expressing the materiality of the interior space and materially unifying with the specific interventions in the garden facing the mountain.
The interior hosts contemporary artworks of two renowned artists from Ticino: Felice Varini and Niele Toroni.
